Uganda Parliament Elects Jacob Oboth Speaker of 12th Parliament
Uganda's Parliament held a vote on Tuesday to choose the Speaker of the 12th Parliament. Jacob Oboth received 441 votes, defeating Paul Mwiru and Norbert Mao.

Tochi County MP Okot Peter then nominated Democratic Party president Norbert Mao, seconded by Aswa County MP Patrick Okello Onguti.
A motion to suspend certain procedural rules was rejected.
The Clerk reported 370 members present and eligible to vote. m. m. Two ballots were ruled invalid. The final count showed Oboth with 441 votes, Mwiru with 60, and Mao with 15, for a total of 519 votes cast.
14, the presiding authority declared Oboth elected.
He was escorted into the chamber by former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, took the oath, and received the symbols of office.
