UK Business Delegation Travels to Los Angeles for Trade Event

More than 200 British firms are participating in a Los Angeles trade mission focused on expanding commercial ties with the United States. The event follows a recent state visit by the King and includes sessions on technology, culture, and finance.

Britain’s largest business delegation has arrived in Los Angeles for a multi-day trade mission involving more than 200 companies. The mission is led by Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy and trade minister Blair McDougall. It was originally scheduled to be headed by Business Secretary Peter Kyle.

The event follows the King’s recent state visit to the United States marking the 250th anniversary of American independence. During that visit, tariffs on UK-made whisky were removed. The expo is co-hosted by Universal Music Group boss Sir Lucian Grainge and former Apple designer Sir Jony Ive.

Speakers scheduled to appear include music impresario Simon Cowell, singer Leona Lewis, designer Sir Paul Smith, and astronaut Tim Peake. Chief executives from British Airways, News Corp, and American Airlines are also expected to attend.

The King recorded a video message for the event that will highlight the long-standing economic and cultural relationship between the two nations. The message notes that the partnership is reflected in financial balance sheets as well as connections between people on both sides of the Atlantic.

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said the UK’s creative industries, sporting heritage, and tourism are among its greatest national assets. She added that the delegation will demonstrate the cultural and commercial value the UK brings to its partnership with the United States.

The event is taking place amid political developments in the UK and ongoing discussions about trade relations with the United States.
