U.K. House of Lords committee urged the Bank of England to reconsider proposed limits of 20,000 pounds per coin for individuals and 10 million pounds for businesses on stablecoin holdings. The Financial Services Regulation Committee issued the recommendation in its report titled "Stablecoins: waiting for regulation," published Wednesday, June 2, 2026.

The committee also advised the central bank to review a requirement that stablecoin issuers hold at least 40 percent of backing assets in unremunerated central bank deposits. "Rather than pre-emptively impose holding limits, the Bank should consider monitoring the growth of the market and imposing holding limits only if the financial stability risks clearly warrant it," the committee stated in the report.
