Ukrainian Drones Strike Oil Terminal in St. Petersburg and Kronstadt Base

Ukrainian drones struck an oil terminal in St. Petersburg's Krovsky district and the Kronstadt naval base early on July 4. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Telegram that the strikes targeted port oil infrastructure and an important military target more than 850 km from Ukraine's state border.

St. Petersburg governor Alexander Beglov said Russian air defenses shot down 72 Ukrainian drones during the overnight attack. He added that technical consequences at the oil terminal had been resolved and that no one was injured.

Ukraine's military described the struck terminal as one of Russia's largest, with capacity to produce 12.5 million tonnes of petroleum products per year. Drone wreckage fell close to the Finnish border in the Leningrad region, according to regional governor Alexander Drozdenko.

The strikes occurred two days after a Russian aerial attack on Kyiv that killed at least 30 people and forced 50,000 residents into shelters.

The last significant Ukrainian drone strike on St. Petersburg took place in early June. Ukraine's military denied Russian claims that Kostyantynivka had fallen under full Russian control, stating that only small infiltration groups were present.
