The International Maritime Organization has paused its plan to coordinate vessel evacuations through the Strait of Hormuz after an attack on a cargo ship near the coast of Oman. The targeted vessel was struck by an unknown projectile on Thursday. It was operating independently and was not part of the UN-coordinated transit framework.
No casualties were reported. The U.S. military carried out strikes on Iran in response to the drone attack on the cargo ship. President Donald Trump blamed Tehran for the incident and described it as a "foolish violation" of the ceasefire.
Iran has warned vessels to use only Tehran-approved routes through the area. Washington and Tehran are continuing negotiations aimed at securing an interim peace agreement. The IMO said the pause will remain until it obtains further clarity on security conditions.
