University of California to Review Standardized Tests in Admissions

The University of California will conduct a review of the SAT and other standardized tests in undergraduate admissions, with results expected by June 2027. The review will also examine high school course requirements for UC eligibility. University officials stated that the review process remains active despite earlier media reports that it had been suspended.

The UC Board of Regents voted unanimously in 2020 to end the use of the SAT and ACT in admissions. That decision overruled a recommendation from the UC Academic Senate to retain the tests. The UC Academic Senate announced last month that it would begin a new review of standardized testing and eligibility requirements.

Several news outlets reported last month that an Academic Senate committee had decided to drop the review. University officials later clarified that the evaluation is continuing.
