USA Basketball Expected to Name Daigneault, Bickerstaff and Few as Assistants
USA Basketball plans to add three NBA and college coaches to Erik Spoelstra's staff. The move covers the cycle through the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

USA Basketball is expected to name Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault, Detroit Pistons head coach JB Bickerstaff and Gonzaga head coach Mark Few as assistant coaches for Erik Spoelstra's national team staff. The Athletic reported the selections are pending board approval and cover the next two-year cycle ending with the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Few previously served as an assistant with Spoelstra under former head coach Steve Kerr for the 2023 World Cup and 2024 Olympics.
Daigneault and Bickerstaff will gain their first national team experience. Daigneault's Thunder led the NBA in wins over the past two seasons and captured the 2025 championship. Bickerstaff guided the Pistons to an Eastern Conference-best 60 wins in the 2025-26 season.
Daigneault and Spoelstra's teams combined for 124 wins that year. Spoelstra was appointed head coach last September after the gold medal performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Team USA will compete in World Cup qualifiers in late August against Chile and Colombia, according to ESPN, as it seeks to reach the 2027 World Cup in Qatar.
The team has already qualified automatically for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
