USA Basketball Expected to Name Thunder, Pistons and Gonzaga Coaches as Team USA Assistants
USA Basketball plans to appoint Oklahoma City Thunder coach Mark Daigneault, Detroit Pistons coach JB Bickerstaff and Gonzaga coach Mark Few to Erik Spoelstra's staff. The selections precede World Cup qualifying matches in late August.

USA Basketball is expected to name Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault, Detroit Pistons head coach JB Bickerstaff and Gonzaga head coach Mark Few as assistant coaches for Erik Spoelstra's national team staff, ESPN reported. Spoelstra was named head coach of Team USA in September 2025, succeeding Steve Kerr after the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Few has served as a Team USA assistant coach in several capacities over the past decade, including alongside Spoelstra since 2021.
Two of the three coaches, Mark Daigneault and JB Bickerstaff, will be coaching for Team USA for the first time. Daigneault's Thunder led the NBA in wins during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons and won the 2025 NBA championship. Bickerstaff guided the Pistons to an Eastern Conference-best 60 wins in the 2025-26 season.
Team USA will compete in World Cup qualifiers in late August against Chile and Colombia. ESPN reported that the team has automatically qualified for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
