Vice President JD Vance Defends Iran Deal in Rogan Interview, Citing Risks of War and Refugee Crisis

Vice President JD Vance said in an interview with podcaster Joe Rogan published Wednesday that the administration is pursuing a deal with Iran to stop a war and possible refugee crisis. Fox News reported the remarks. Vance stated that some opposing Republicans and their allies want to bomb Iran or achieve regime change there.

He said sending a ground invasion of 150,000 troops would mean the U.S. military doing the job for the Iranian people, adding that the United States is not in that business. He pointed to the Libya outcome after the United States toppled Muammar Gaddafi, which turned the country into a failed state with a refugee crisis, violence, and terrorism.

Vance said the downfall of Gaddafi and the creation of a failed state in Syria were sparks that began the global migrant crisis flooding Europe in the 2010s. Vance warned that Iran can shut down 25% of the world’s energy supply by closing the Strait of Hormuz with cheap drones that are difficult to intercept. He said there are people who would like the Libya outcome to occur in Iran.

In the recent Memorandum of Understanding, Vance stated, the United States agreed to allow neighboring gulf countries to invest $300 billion in Iran if it met its obligations. He added that the pro-interventionist faction of the Republican Party is lying by claiming the United States will give Iran $300 billion.

Vance said the American people have no appetite for open-ended wars like those of recent decades.
