Social media reaction Viewers posted clips on X accusing the official of using a gesture associated with white supremacy. One post stated the sign was “a known white supremacist sign.” A FIFA spokesperson said the organization was aware of the incident but declined further comment.
Context on the gesture The Anti-Defamation League has described a similar hand position as a hate symbol but cautions that the traditional “OK” meaning and other uses require care before assuming intent. The same gesture has been used in a playground game known as the circle game and has appeared in unrelated contexts.
