Waitress Turned CEO After 17 Years at Franchise Consulting Firm

Marissa Frois started as a waitress at a restaurant and later became chief executive of The Entrepreneur's Source, a firm that connects people with franchise opportunities. Frois said she became friendly with owners Terry and Karen while serving them regularly.

The couple discussed their business with her during visits. After college, Frois accepted a summer internship in marketing and administrative work at the company. The role expanded into full-time positions over the following years.

Frois held roles in marketing, sales, and operations before being named CEO four years ago. She said she initially worried about leading the firm at age 34 while raising two young children. She credited Terry with mentoring her throughout her time at the company. Frois noted that her background in psychology helped her work with coaches and clients.

Frois said her experience shows the value of speaking with everyone encountered at work. She stated that spotting talent benefits both individuals and organizations. "I've learned a lot from Terry, but one of the most important things is that everyone is worth talking to, even the young waitress.
