Wang Xinyu defeats Leylah Fernandez 6-3 6-4 to reach Bad Homburg quarterfinals

Leylah Fernandez lost to Wang Xinyu 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 16 at the Bad Homburg Open on Tuesday, Cbc reported. The 23-year-old from Laval, Quebec, recorded two aces and four double faults while facing six break-point opportunities and losing her serve five times. Wang advanced to the quarterfinals on the grass courts in Bad Homburg, Germany.

The match lasted 1 hour and 33 minutes. Fernandez, ranked 23rd in the world, had entered the tournament as her final event before Wimbledon, which begins Monday in London. She will be the top-seeded Canadian in the women's draw at the All England Club.

Victoria Mboko of Burlington, Ontario, ranked ninth in the world, will miss Wimbledon after tearing the medial collateral ligament in her left knee at the HSBC Championships earlier this month, Cbc reported.
