Washington Nationals Director of Community Relations Sean Hudson was recorded stating that the team avoided featuring starting pitcher Trevor Williams on social media because of Williams’s 2023 criticism of an event held by another team. The recording shows Hudson describing Williams as “super Christian-Catholic” and saying even routine posts were kept from Williams after the criticism.

Hudson also said the organization tracks ticket buyers’ online activity and assigns them to marketing categories.

Employee statements and aftermath Hudson told the person recording the video that accepting online cookies allows the team to obtain portions of fans’ Google history. He described himself as “very far-left leaning” and said he keeps a political poster in his kitchen.

After the video was released, Hudson deleted his X account and changed his Instagram profile. When contacted, he denied making the recorded statements. The Nationals removed Hudson’s name from the team’s front-office page. Online calls for boycotts followed the video’s publication.
