A jacket worn by Wilt Chamberlain during the 1972 NBA Finals sold Monday for $89,600 including buyer's premium. Quinn Brown, 19, had bought it for $3.07 at a Portland Goodwill store three years into his vintage resale work.

A Wilt Chamberlain Los Angeles Lakers warmup jacket sold for $89,600 including buyer's premium at Sotheby's on Monday. ESPN reported the sale. Quinn Brown, 19, purchased the jacket from a Portland, Oregon Goodwill bargain bin for $3.07 after spotting it among discarded items.
Brown had spent three years buying vintage clothing to resell online, with his previous highest price reaching $250. Sotheby's head of modern collectibles Brahm Wachter contacted Brown after Brown posted a photo of the jacket online. Sotheby's then enlisted SIA Photo Match to verify and photo-match the item.
The jacket, which says "Chamberlain" on the back, was photo-matched to the 1972 NBA Finals and the 1972-73 NBA season. Sotheby's described it as likely used throughout the 1971-72 season. Wilt Chamberlain won the 1972 NBA Finals MVP award and set the single-season field goal percentage record of 72.7 percent that season.
