Player demands and background Players have called for a larger share of Grand Slam revenues and recently limited pre-tournament news conferences to 15 minutes in symbolic protest. Twenty leading players signed a letter more than a year ago seeking higher prize money and greater decision-making input.
The All England Club chair said players had advocated for 71 million pounds in total prize money for this year's event. Ninety percent of any distributable financial surplus from Wimbledon goes to the Lawn Tennis Association, which supports participation, court renovation, and elite player development in Britain.
