The WNBA will expand its regular-season schedule from 44 to 50 games in 2027. A person familiar with the situation told USA TODAY Sports that officials made the decision in response to increased demand. League commissioner Cathy Engelbert said demand for the WNBA has never been greater and the expansion reflects momentum across the league.
The league increased its regular-season games from 36 in 2022 to 40 in 2023 and 2024. Officials raised the total to 44 in 2025.
Three months before the schedule announcement, the league and its players reached a collective bargaining agreement that sets the first $1 million player salaries and raises the team salary cap to $7 million from $1.5 million in 2025. The deal also guarantees housing for players for three years.
The agreement allows the league to add two more games by 2029 and requires the 2027 season to end by November 21. Three expansion teams will join the league between 2028 and 2030.
