The WNBA will increase its regular season from 44 to 50 games beginning in 2027. The expansion was permitted under a recently approved collective bargaining agreement that also raised player compensation and secured a $2.2 billion media rights deal.
The new schedule structure will push the end of the regular season to no later than Nov. 30 starting in 2028. League officials said the league retains an option to add two additional regular-season games beginning in 2029. The 50-game season will mark the longest regular season in league history. The league began with 28 games per team in 1997 and expanded to 44 games in 2025.
WNBA has never been greater, and expanding to a 50-game regular season reflects the extraordinary momentum we are seeing across the league," commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in a statement. " The 2026 regular season began May 8 and is scheduled to conclude in September, with the last possible Finals date set for October.
