Wyndham Clark Says Connecticut Fans Cheered Him at Travelers Championship After New York Heckling at U.S. Open

Wyndham Clark said the atmosphere at the Travelers Championship has been the opposite of the heckling he received while winning the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills the previous week. "Honestly, just coming here the whole week, everyone’s been polar opposite of last week," Clark said. "They’re rooting for me, cheering for me. Just a lot of genuine pulling for me. " At Shinnecock Hills, fans cheered Clark’s missed shots and heckled him during the final round, with police removing some spectators from the grounds.

Clark later told reporters that New York fans did not like him because of actions he regretted from the prior year, including damaging a locker room at Oakmont Country Club after missing the cut at the 2025 U.S. Open and throwing his driver into a sponsor sign at the 2025 PGA Championship. He has apologized publicly multiple times.

Clark said after his opening round at the Travelers Championship that Connecticut fans were finally supporting him. He opened with a 2-under 68 that included a triple bogey on the par-4 12th hole after his tee shot went out of bounds. He played the remaining 17 holes in 5-under par and finished five shots behind the leader.

Clark arrived at the event with two wins in his last four starts and no finish worse than a T-11 in that stretch. He credited a putter switch for better putting. Yardbarker.com reported that he shot rounds of 68, 64, and 65 to reach 13-under par through 54 holes.
