Wyndham Clark Wins 2026 U.S. Open by One Stroke After Holding Six-Shot Lead

Wyndham Clark won the 126th U.S. Open on June 21, 2026, at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York. He finished the tournament at 4 under par and defeated Sam Burns by one stroke. Clark entered the final round with a six-shot lead and became the first wire-to-wire winner of a major since Martin Kaymer in 2014.

He shot 64 in the opening round on June 18 and held on despite a 3-over-par front nine in the final round. Clark birdied the 10th hole and made a 24-foot birdie putt on the 16th. He bogeyed the 13th and 17th holes before two-putting for par on the 18th.

He also saved par on the fourth hole after his second shot bounced twice on the walkway. Sam Burns, who entered the final round at even par, made four birdies on the front nine but missed a birdie putt on the 18th that would have forced a playoff. Burns finished second.

Scottie Scheffler, J.T. Poston and Keith Mitchell tied for fourth at even par. Tom Kim placed third at 1 under par. Clark, the 2023 champion, said the win provided redemption after a difficult 2025. “I mean, the first one was amazing, and this one seems even better,” he stated.

Clark added that he hopes the victory closes the door on the previous year. His father surprised him by the 18th green on Father’s Day.
