Yankees Optioned Pitcher Luis Gil Diagnosed With Right Shoulder Inflammation, to Miss At Least Six Weeks

Luis Gil landed on the injured list at Triple-A on Friday with right shoulder inflammation and will be shut down from throwing for at least three weeks, manager Aaron Boone said. The time spent not throwing for pitchers is typically equal to the time it takes to build back up, meaning Gil could be at least six weeks from returning to game action.

Boone indicated the shoulder issue is new and did not contribute to Gil’s poor results in the majors.
