Yankees Plan Max Fried Return After Tuesday Rehab Start
The New York Yankees expect to activate left-hander Max Fried from the injured list during their upcoming series against the Chicago White Sox. Manager Aaron Boone said Fried will throw about 60 pitches in a July 22 rehab outing with the Triple-A RailRiders.

Manager Aaron Boone said Fried will throw approximately 60 pitches in that outing with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and is expected to rejoin the major-league rotation upon activation. Fried has been sidelined since May 14 with left elbow discomfort caused by a bone bruise.
In his first rehab appearance the prior week he pitched three innings, allowed two runs on five hits, struck out three and walked none on 52 pitches. He posted a 199 average across 61 2/3 innings.
The Yankees stood at 56-44 on July 21, 1.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East after an 8-5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates the previous night. The planned return comes as the trade deadline approaches and New York seeks to bolster a rotation that has dealt with multiple absences.
