Yankees second baseman exits game after foul ball to groin

New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. left Thursday's game against the White Sox in the fourth inning after a foul ball ricocheted off the ground and struck his groin area. Chisholm dropped to the ground immediately. Manager Aaron Boone and a trainer examined him on the field.

He remained down for several minutes before standing and limping off. Anthony Volpe pinch-hit for Chisholm with a 2-2 count and walked, then was caught stealing second base. Two innings later Volpe doubled and was thrown out at third attempting a triple.

Game outcome and pitching The White Sox scored the decisive runs in the eighth inning on a pinch-hit grand slam. The visiting team held the Yankees to one run over the final 7⅓ innings.

Yankees injury situation The team is already missing three position players.

Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Trent Grisham remain on the injured list. Chisholm, 28, is batting .228 with 10 home runs and a .720 OPS in 70 games this season. He returned to the starting lineup for Friday's game.
