Los Angeles TimesA New York Yankees second baseman hit a 360-foot home run in the eighth inning to give his team a 3-2 victory over the opposing team on Tuesday night. The player fell behind 0-2 in the count before working a full count against a reliever. On the seventh pitch, he drove a slider into the right-field stands.
The home run was the player's fourth career go-ahead homer in the eighth inning or later. It was also the second consecutive home run he hit using a teammate's bat. The player had struck out in the fifth inning after overswinging at pitches following the opposing fans' chants.
"I feel like that was the loudest chants all day we heard, so I think it was great," the player said after the game. He added that he adjusted his approach after the early at-bats and waited for a pitch to start toward him. The team's manager said he appreciated the player's response to the situation.
