The New York Rangers and restricted free agent defenseman Braden Schneider agreed to a one-year contract worth $5.5 million for the 2026-27 season, ESPN reported on Monday. The deal was reached ahead of a salary arbitration hearing scheduled for later in July. Schneider, 24, is entering his sixth NHL season after being drafted 19th overall by the Rangers in 2020.
He had elected arbitration before the July 5 deadline. Schneider will remain an arbitration-eligible restricted free agent after the coming season. The defenseman is coming off a two-year contract that carried a $2.2 million annual cap hit.
Last season he recorded two goals and 16 assists in 82 games while averaging a career-high 20 minutes and 27 seconds of ice time per game. Over 368 career NHL games, Schneider has accumulated 87 points.
