Zelenskiy Discusses UAE Assistance on Captives and Iran War
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy held a telephone call with the United Arab Emirates president on May 11. The leaders discussed UAE assistance in returning Ukrainians from Russian captivity and matters related to the war in Iran. Ukraine has provided drone defense expertise to the UAE under a 10-year defense cooperation agreement.
The two discussed the UAE's assistance in returning Ukrainians held in Russian captivity as well as developments related to the war in Iran, al-monitor.com reported. Since the start of the war in Iran, Ukraine has offered its experience in countering drones to the UAE and several other Middle Eastern countries.
Kyiv and the UAE previously reached a 10-year defense cooperation deal. Zelenskiy said he was glad to hear that Ukrainian expertise is helping to build reliable protection for lives. The two leaders discussed continuing this work.
"I am grateful to the UAE that our agreements are being implemented on the basis of reciprocity and that Ukraine is also receiving the support it needs, including in the energy sector," Zelenskiy said on X. The call comes as Ukraine continues efforts to secure the return of its citizens from captivity while sharing military knowledge developed during its own conflict.
