15-Year-Old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Selected for India T20 Squad
The teenager earned a first senior call-up after scoring 776 IPL runs at a strike rate of 237.30 and helping India’s under-19 side win the World Cup. He joins the squad for two T20s against Ireland and a five-match series against England.
news18.comA 15-year-old batsman has been named in India’s senior T20 squad for the first time after a breakout Indian Premier League season. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi collected the most valuable player award after scoring 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30 for Rajasthan Royals. Those performances prompted selectors to include him for two T20s against Ireland at Stormont on 26 and 28 June.
Iyer will captain the side in both series, replacing Suryakumar Yadav, who has been dropped after leading India to the T20 World Cup title earlier this year. Yadav scored 242 runs in nine innings during the tournament. Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya have also been rested for the tour. An uncapped fast bowler, Prince Yadav, received his first call-up.
Sooryavanshi helped India’s under-19 team win the World Cup this year, scoring 175 in the final against England. A strong showing on the senior tour would make him India’s youngest male debutant, surpassing the previous record set by Sachin Tendulkar in 1989. The five-match T20 series against England begins on 1 July.
