Airbnb cofounder and CEO Brian Chesky’s X account was hijacked and used to post a multi-post thread promoting real-world asset tokenization on Monday. The thread, posted as a reply to a user referencing Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev’s recent CNBC interview, stated: “I’ve been quietly keeping an eye on real-world asset tokenization for a while now. Most of it is noise.
Users flagged the posts as AI-generated, citing stylistic markers such as a lack of commas. ” Fortune ran the thread through the AI-detection tool Pangram, which flagged it as 100% AI-generated. The posts were deleted after the flags.
The hacked posts were escalated to X platform security teams as a “high-profile compromise,” according to correspondence between Airbnb and X employees. X secured the account on Tuesday evening, after which Chesky regained access. Chesky maintains more than 1.2 million followers on X.
Airbnb declined to provide a public comment. A Pangram analysis found that roughly one in four long-form social media posts are now AI-generated and nearly half of X’s longer “Articles” contain AI-written material.
