Amazon placed No. 1 on the 2026 Fortune 500 list released on Wednesday after surpassing $700 billion in revenue last year, a 12% increase from the prior year. Walmart, which had held the top position for 13 consecutive years, fell to second place.

The Fortune 500 ranks America’s 500 largest companies by total revenue for the previous fiscal year. Alphabet recorded the highest profits among the ranked companies at $132 billion.

The remaining companies in the top 10 are UnitedHealth Group, Apple, CVS Health, Berkshire Hathaway, McKesson, Exxon, and Cencora. 1 trillion in profits, up 12%. Their combined market value reached $55 trillion, an increase of 19%.

GDP. The 2026 list includes a record 56 companies led by women. 2% of total Fortune 500 revenue, the highest share in the ranking’s history and the fourth straight year the figure has exceeded 10%.

SpaceX and Anthropic filed paperwork for initial public offerings. Anthropic carries an expected valuation of $965 billion. Jeff Bezos founded Amazon in a rented Bellevue garage.
