Argentinian Amateur Pulcini Holes 40-Foot Putt and Celebrates at Royal Birkdale

Mateo Pulcini, the only Argentinian in the field at The Open Championship, holed a 40-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole at Royal Birkdale and celebrated by cupping both hands to his ears. GB News reported that the amateur made his Open debut after his country defeated England in the World Cup. Pulcini recorded a five-over-par 75 in the opening round.

Pulcini said he watched every minute of Argentina's match against England. The celebration came to mind after the putt, he added. "I didn't want to do anything to make fun of the match that you guys lost because the tournament here has been unbelievable," Pulcini stated.

"That celebration came from a 40-foot putt. " He was light-heartedly booed before teeing off. Pulcini said he expected some jeers on the first tee but heard almost none. "I love it. I really don't mind.

It's part of the fun," he said. "People were being great. The fans are spectacular. " Other players posted mixed results on the dry course. Justin Rose shot 75 with eight bogeys. Matthew Jordan carded a 77.

Jordan Spieth opened with a 73. Bryson DeChambeau posted a 67. Dan Brown and Sung-jae Im lead after both shot 66.
