Three hours before the game against the Jazz, Dybantsa received a massage and treatment from a trainer inside the Washington Wizards' 26,000-square-foot facility at Mandalay Bay. Assistant coach Cody Toppert showed him video clips on an iPad, after which Dybantsa warmed up for more than 30 minutes by shooting midrange shots, three-pointers, practicing shot creation moves and free throws.
The Wizards have not advanced past the first round of the playoffs since 2017 and finished 50-196 over the past three seasons.
They have not reached the playoffs since 2021. The team acquired Anthony Davis in a midseason trade and signed point guard Trae Young to a four-year, $212.8 million contract. Recent first-round selections include Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson and Will Riley.
"He's nice," Young said. "But people don't understand, I see certain things that he can even be better at. And [that's with him being] already the No. " Young added that Dybantsa made scoring 27 points look easy.
