Head athletic trainer Brad Epstein went to the mound to check on Sproat during his plate appearance against Steven Kwan. Chad Patrick replaced him in the game.
The Brewers defeated the Guardians 9-4 at their home ballpark in Milwaukee. Sproat had retired nine straight batters through the first three innings before allowing two walks and a single to open the fourth. Daniel Schneemann hit a grand slam off Sproat on a 2-2 pitch.
Rhys Hoskins struck out and David Fry hit a pop fly before Sproat departed. Sproat said he had been dealing with the cramp for much of the fourth inning. "The whole fourth inning, whenever my back leg would swing around, that hamstring wanted to cramp up on me," he said.
Manager Pat Murphy said after the game the injury would not have long-term consequences. "It's just a cramp," Murphy said. " Sproat said he would not miss any time.
The Brewers acquired Sproat in a January trade that sent Freddy Peralta to the New York Mets. 94 ERA in his first full MLB season.
