A center arrived at the Frost Bank Center on Tuesday wearing a black bandaid on his broken right pinky. He switched to a thin protective black sleeve on the same hand when practice began. The center underwent surgery after fracturing the fifth metacarpal.

Officials said the injury did not occur in a game or during practice. He has completed individual work the last two days while wearing a protective brace.

Brown said Monday the team is waiting on medical staff to determine next steps. The center is averaging 5.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in 13 playoff games this postseason. >"I’m just waiting on the medical staff. He just did individual work today. " — Mike Brown, June 1, 2026 (New York Post) The center missed one game in the second round after the injury.

His rebounding is viewed as important against the opposing frontcourt.

The center posted a message on Instagram Saturday thanking supporters and addressing critics. Game 1 of the NBA Finals is scheduled for Wednesday.
