Clarke Schmidt took part in a simulated game on Saturday before the Yankees-Dodgers contest was postponed by rain, marking his initial such session since a second Tommy John surgery, nypost.com reported. The right-hander threw 15 fastballs and reached a top velocity of 94 mph, throwing no breaking balls on the advice of medical staff.
“It was great. I felt good. Nice and easy,” Schmidt said. “Felt like I was moving really well. Felt good to have some competition, compete again and get some cleats on the dirt.
The 30-year-old right-hander is scheduled to throw another simulated game in five days. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Schmidt’s role upon return remains undecided, though the pitcher said he is open to working as either a reliever or starter. In 2025 Schmidt posted a 3.32 ERA over 14 starts and 78 2/3 innings before the elbow injury ended his season.
