Cubs Defeat Giants 6-1 Behind Crow-Armstrong and Brown

Pete Crow-Armstrong hit the first pitch of the game for a home run and the Chicago Cubs defeated the San Francisco Giants 6-1 on Saturday night. Crow-Armstrong took a Trevor McDonald slider over the fence in left-center field for his 12th home run of the season. He also had a double and a single.

His double triggered a two-run third inning, and he scored the inning's first run on a Seiya Suzuki single. Michael Busch stole home on the front end of a double steal with Ian Happ. Busch later drew a walk from Reiver Sanmartin to increase the Cubs' lead to 4-0.

Ian Happ hit his 16th home run of the season, and rookie Pedro Ramirez hit his first career home run in his 29th plate appearance. Ramirez also had a double. The Cubs collected four doubles and three homers among their 11 hits.

Ben Brown pitched five solid innings for the Cubs. He allowed one run on seven hits and three walks. 74 after the game. He has allowed one or fewer runs in six of his seven starts.

Brown is the winning pitcher with a record of 3-2. Trevor McDonald was charged with four runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out four batters. McDonald's record is 2-4. Drew Gilbert walked and scored on a Luis Arraez triple for the Giants' only run.

The Giants went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Rafael Devers had a double and a single for the Giants. Drew Gilbert walked three times for the Giants. The Cubs followed up a 5-1 win in the series opener with the 6-1 victory.
