Delta Air Lines Ends Food and Beverage Service on Flights Under 350 Miles
Delta Air Lines will no longer offer complimentary food and beverage service on flights shorter than 350 miles except in its First Class cabin. The airline previously provided an Express Service option on flights between 250 and 350 miles. The change affects less than 10 percent of daily flights and will allow full service to be added to more routes.
onemileatatime.comDelta Air Lines is changing its in-flight food and beverage service on select flights to create a more consistent experience across its network. The Atlanta-based carrier said that flights shorter than 350 miles will no longer offer food and beverage service, with the exception of Delta First which always receives full service.
The company stated that even on the small number of flights without beverage service, its crew will continue to be visible, available, and focused on caring for customers. The change accounts for less than 10 percent of daily Delta flights. As a result, the airline said it will be adding its full service to more flights.
Delta previously did not serve food or drinks on flights under 250 miles. It did offer an Express Service option for flights between 250 and 350 miles which included water, coffee, tea and two snacks. As the airline phases out that Express Service, it aims to create a cohesive experience across more flights.
The company made the announcement on May 5, 2026.
The move by Delta Air Lines is not unprecedented.
United Airlines currently does not offer snacks on flights less than 300 miles. American Airlines has a similar cutoff at under 250 miles but will provide drinks by request.
