A Delta Air Lines aircraft was struck by a firework while landing at Chicago Midway International Airport on July 4, Newsweek reported. The incident occurred as Delta Flight 1076 arrived from Atlanta. Delta stated that the aircraft landed safely and that no emergency landing was required.
The airline said the plane was removed from normal operations for inspection after reaching the gate. Initial reports indicated no injuries to passengers or crew. FlightAware data showed the flight departed Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport at 7:36 p.m.
ET and landed at Chicago Midway at 8:38 p.m. CT. Air traffic control audio captured the pilot reporting the strike. "We just had a firework hit our plane," the pilot said. "We just heard the bang on the plane," the pilot added.
