'The Devil Wears Prada 2' Debuts with A- CinemaScore Rating Following May 1 Theater Release

Directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' is based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger. Wendy Finerman served as producer, with executive producers including Michael Bederman, Aline Brosh McKenna, Karen Rosenfelt and Elizabeth Niles.

The story returns to the world of Runway magazine, where Andy Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway, is abruptly let go from The New York Vanguard via text and then accepts an award for her journalism career.

Her acceptance speech on the decline of funding and respect for journalism goes viral overnight. Runway chairman Irv Ravitz, portrayed by Tibor Feldman, approaches her with an offer to help contain a scandal involving praise of fast fashion in the magazine. Andy's return to Runway occurs without the knowledge of her former boss, Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, who remains indifferent.

Andy works to revitalize Runway's digital features and secures a key interview, earning some respect from Miranda. She rekindles ties with Nigel Kipling, played by Stanley Tucci, who continues as Miranda's right-hand man. Andy also encounters Emily Charlton, portrayed by Emily Blunt, now a senior executive in Dior's retail division.

The film balances modernization with sentimentality, exploring evolving relationships amid changes in fashion and journalism. It features witty dialogue and a sentimental core, though it includes a romantic subplot for Andy that feels less essential. Print media's precarious state and cultural institutions' declining value provide urgency to the narrative.

Meryl Streep reprises her role as Miranda Priestly. Emily Blunt reprises Emily Charlton, and Stanley Tucci returns as Nigel Kipling. New cast members include Justin Theroux as Benji Barnes, Simone Ashley as Amari Mari and Caleb Hearon as Charlie.

The main cast also features Kenneth Branagh, Tracie Thoms, Luci Liu, Patrick Brammall, Helen J. J. Novak, Conrad Ricamora, Rachel Bloom, Donatella Versace, Lady Gaga, Ciara, Calum Harper and Ashley Graham.
