England's men finished their FIH Pro League campaign in second place after losing a penalty shootout to India in their final match. After a 0-0 draw, only David Goodfield and captain Zachary Wallace scored in the shootout, which India won 3-2 at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in London.
Zak Jones' side collected 35 points, four points behind champions Belgium. England had beaten India on penalties after a 2-2 draw on Thursday and defeated Pakistan 7-0 on Saturday.
Women's results England's women stayed in the top division with consecutive victories against Spain. They recorded a 3-2 comeback win over Argentina in their final game, with Anna Toman, Ellie Rayer and Holly Hunt scoring. Ireland finished bottom with 10 points and was relegated.
The Netherlands won the women's title with a 13-point lead over Argentina. England's men will next compete against India, Pakistan and Wales in Pool D of the World Cup scheduled for 15-30 August in the Netherlands and Belgium.
