Paraguay eliminated Germany from the 2026 World Cup on Monday after winning a penalty shootout 4-3 following a 1-1 draw that extended into extra time. The South American side reached the Round of 16 for the first time in its history by becoming the first team to beat Germany on penalties at the World Cup knockout stage.
Ninety minutes of regulation time produced no winner, sending the match into extra time for the first time in the tournament. Germany and Paraguay remained level after the additional period, forcing the outcome to be decided from the penalty spot.
