Family of Victim in 2021 One-Punch Attack Concerns Over £500,000 Compensation Sufficiency

Craig Lewis-Williams, 50, from Llay, Wrexham, suffered brain damage, inability to walk or swallow, and memory problems after a one-punch attack in November 2021. The incident occurred while he was walking home from work as a warehouse manager. He later experienced a stroke during treatment, resulting in paralysis on his left side, and now requires tube feeding with carers visiting six times daily.

His attacker, Adam Chamberlin, admitted grievous bodily harm and was sentenced to one year and four months in prison in December 2022. Lewis-Williams received £500,000 in compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority, the maximum amount established in 1996 for severe life-changing injuries such as brain damage and paralysis.

This payment aims to cover care needs and long-term support, as victims often cannot work due to their injuries.
