The Indiana Fever lost to the Golden State Valkyries 88-75 on July 15 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Caitlin Clark, the Fever guard selected first overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft, scored 13 points. In the second quarter Clark drove for a lay-up and fell after contact from Valkyries center Kiah Stokes.
She appeared to limp after the play. " Clark left the court after the exchange but returned to finish the game. After the contest she said the official told her she had initiated contact. "You can't miss calls like that," Clark stated.
"I had to play with a contusion on my leg for the rest of the game. It's ridiculous. " This marked the second time in a month that Clark had complained about Gatling's officiating. Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White had also criticized referees last month for their handling of calls involving Clark.
