The Federal Trade Commission warned this week that emails falsely claiming recipients are invited to an event are being used to steal personal information. The agency issued the alert on Tuesday. The messages are sometimes designed to appear as if they come from Paperless Post or Evite.

It also advises creating a new password quickly if information may have been compromised.
