G7 Leaders Discuss Ukraine Support at France Meeting
Leaders at the G7 gathering in France reviewed proposals on air defense and winter aid. Ukrainian officials thanked participants for ideas aimed at pressuring Russia toward peace talks. The U.S. indicated readiness to back several of the discussed measures.
The GuardianUkrainian officials posted on social media after the G7 session in France, expressing thanks for the discussion and for ideas on how to pressure Russia toward a settlement. The post listed three priorities: additional air-defense missiles and production licenses, a winter support package, and increased pressure on Russia.
It stated that the U.S. is prepared to provide a backstop for these efforts. The message also said implementation of the discussed items is essential and that Russia must understand its war will not become normalized.
The gathering took place in Évian-les-Bains.
Reports noted some uncertainty earlier in the day about whether the session would occur on schedule. Officials indicated that any agreed steps would need follow-through from participating governments.
