Gears of War: E-Day Launches October 6 as Xbox Exclusive, Ending Multiplatform Strategy

Microsoft announced at its Xbox Games Showcase on June 7 that Gears of War: E-Day will launch on October 6 as an Xbox console exclusive and will not be released on PlayStation 5. The Verge reported that the game had been rumored for a PS5 launch in addition to Xbox and PC before the announcement.
A trailer shown during the event opened with a street-level view of an alien attack in an urban landscape that included an electronics store and a grocery shop.
The Verge described the footage as showing familiar Gears gameplay with blood and cover-based combat, and noted one soldier wearing tight blue jeans. The Gears of War franchise made its PlayStation debut in 2025 with the Gears of War: Reloaded remake, which continued Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy at the time.
The Verge reported that a major executive shake-up placed Asha Sharma in charge as the new CEO of Microsoft’s gaming division, after which signs pointed toward a return to Xbox exclusives.
Today’s announcement is the clearest indication yet of that shift, The Verge stated.
