General Intuition Raises $320 Million at $2.3 Billion Valuation After Video-Game-Trained Model Powers Robot

General Intuition raised $320 million last month at a $2.3 billion valuation. The company trained a foundation model on millions of hours of video game data that include controller button presses and timing.

After fine-tuning on eight minutes of real-world robotics data, it powered a quadrupedal robot that operated using only the front camera with no other sensors. The robot navigated an office environment that contained dynamic objects and walking people. Pim de Witte, CEO of General Intuition, said the zero-shot performance with only the front camera was a very big surprise.

He stated that the generalization of the model itself is the product. De Witte said the model’s base level of reasoning about space and time will cause companies to stop collecting hundreds of thousands or millions of hours of real-world data because only a few minutes are needed. Vinod Khosla is the company’s lead investor.

De Witte stated that General Intuition will not build a self-driving car company but will make it 10 times easier for others to build one.
