George Russell Wins Austrian Grand Prix by 1.6 Seconds

George Russell won the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, ending a 112-day winless streak that began after his March 8 victory in Melbourne. Russell started from pole and maintained the lead through the opening lap while Hamilton overtook teammate Charles Leclerc for second. Antonelli briefly reached third before running wide and dropping two places.

Verstappen recovered from a qualifying crash to reach third and closed to within 5.7 seconds of Russell after the first round of pit stops. The two drivers traded positions twice before Verstappen passed Hamilton for good on lap 29. A virtual safety car followed Carlos Sainz's retirement, prompting Ferrari to bring Hamilton in for a second stop and switch him to soft tires.

Hamilton ultimately finished fifth.

Antonelli placed third, 0.3 seconds behind Verstappen, trimming his points lead over Russell from 50 to 40 with one round remaining before the British Grand Prix. Oscar Piastri finished fourth, Isack Hadjar sixth and Lando Norris seventh. Russell crossed the line 1.6 seconds clear after managing tire wear and responding to Verstappen's late charge.
