Giants Reject Trade Offer to Select Francis Mauigoa at No. 10

The New York Giants received a trade offer during the 2026 NFL draft and considered moving back from the 10th overall pick to gain better positioning later in the draft. Officials weighed the potential reward of additional selections against the possibility of losing Francis Mauigoa. The team ultimately rejected the offer and selected him.

Mauigoa responded to reports of the trade interest by saying, “I’m here, so ain’t nothing they can do about it. ” He added that he was excited to join the Giants, noting both Miami and New York are large cities. During the two-day rookie minicamp, Mauigoa took nearly every repetition as he began transitioning from right tackle to guard.

The head coach said he looked natural in the new position and performed well in his first exposure to playing guard. The in-house production showed video of an unidentified team contacting the general manager with a trade proposal. The general manager discussed the offer with the draft room, stating there was no guarantee Mauigoa would be available if the team moved back.

Officials decided to stay at the pick rather than risk losing the player. Mauigoa is expected to become the lone new starter on the Giants offensive line. He will play next to a veteran right tackle who previously played guard.

The player said he plans to work to meet the team’s standard and help improve it. Mauigoa trained for the draft with a former Giants center and spoke with a college teammate who had made a similar position change. He noted that everything happens faster at guard than at tackle and that the adjustment is mainly about getting used to the speed.

The transition is not entirely new for Mauigoa. He occasionally played guard during college practices to develop versatility. He credited his college offensive line coach with emphasizing the value of learning multiple positions.
