Instagram is filled with advertisements for high-end accessories that brands present as carriers for electrolyte powder or legal substances but that visually echo tools long associated with powdered drugs. A video advertisement for the SLYD pouch shows a person loading a small quantity of a powdered substance into the small leather pocket with a magnetic clasp priced at $39.

” SLYD mostly touts its sleeve as a convenient carrying case for nicotine pouches.

The makers of the SLYD pouch did not respond to a request for comment. An online store called Magic Items sells a magnetized leather pouch called a Wildcard priced from $60 to $100. The Wildcard is stamped with the logo of a rabbit in a jester hat.

Magic Items posted on Instagram demonstrating the Wildcard with electrolyte powder. ” FattyPack has posted a demonstration on Instagram on how to attach a key to its bag. A FattyPack representative said via Instagram DM: “Since we don’t promote our product for drug use, we’ve had zero issues with Meta ads.

Bumpskē is a stainless-steel gadget. Bumpskē’s Instagram page was removed after WIRED reached out to Meta for comment. Bumpskē has just two followers on TikTok. Snogo sells spring-loaded designer straws that can be worn as necklaces.

Snogo sells an all-in-one product that functions as both a bump straw and carrying case. Snogo sells a bedazzled $110 ballcap with special pockets for stashing a straw and money. Snogo’s Instagram account was deleted after WIRED contacted Meta for comment.

Rachel Froehlich is executive customer care manager at Snogo. ” A Meta spokesperson named Erica Sackin told WIRED that the company is investigating a number of the brand accounts mentioned in the article. Meta routinely conducts sweeps to crack down on users who violate their policies on illicit drugs.

TikTok did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the Bumpskē and Snogo pages. Wired reported that though the products are presented as carriers for electrolytes, nicotine pouches or cacao, many of the demonstrations, inscriptions and marketing images invite a different interpretation.

The report noted that comments on some posts openly reference drug-related concerns such as whether a dog could smell through the pouch.
