Human League Returns to U.S. for First Full Tour in Over a Decade with Generations Tour
Human League will headline the Generations Tour alongside Soft Cell and Alison Moyet, starting June 2 in San Diego. The 21-city U.S. tour includes a June 4 performance at the Hollywood Bowl and marks Human League’s first full U.S. tour in more than ten years.
VarietyHuman League is returning to the United States for its first full tour in over a decade, Variety reported. The Generations Tour, which also features Soft Cell and Alison Moyet, will begin on June 2 in San Diego and includes a performance at the Hollywood Bowl on June 4. The tour will cover 21 cities, including stops in Las Vegas, Chicago, Nashville, and New York.
Soft Cell has been touring in recent years with Philip Larsen filling in for Dave Ball, who died in October, Variety reported. Human League, a band from Sheffield, has endured for more than four decades and is known for their 1981 No. ” Lead singer Philip Oakey stayed with the band after two founding members left to form Heaven 17 early in the band’s history.
Oakey recruited vocalists Joanne Catherall and Susan Ann Sulley, who were high school students at the time. Oakey said the band last performed in the area at the 2023 Cruel World Festival, where lightning strikes forced them to evacuate the stage.
“We do get a lot, more for ‘Don’t You Want Me’ than for anything else. And we try to be a bit careful not to overuse it. So if people just want it to set their atmosphere, we say no. But I love the stuff in ‘Stranger Things.’ I don’t know if you saw ‘Marty Supreme,’ but the use of Tears for Fears was excellent. I love Tears for Fears. I mean — that’s a group who could make heavenly records." Oakey also discussed plans for a 10th Human League studio album, stating, > "I’m pretty sure there will be the 10th Human League album at some stage. I’ve got to say, I find the business less easy to understand than I did. It’s hard to find a sympathetic producer. We have always been successful when we had a great producer. Four times in our careers people have come in with a clear view from outside and put us on the right path. And I think it’s harder to find that now." He added that the band members Joanne Catherall, Susan Ann Sulley, and himself will soon gather to pack clothes for the upcoming tour. The Generations Tour brings together artists with roots in the New Wave era, which was popularized in the 1980s as MTV rose to prominence. Soft Cell originated in Leeds, about 30 miles from Sheffield, where Human League formed. Soft Cell’s hit "Tainted Love" contributes to the tour’s nostalgic appeal. Human League’s distinctive visual style and long career have made them a lasting presence in popular music since their early days supporting punk acts and enduring through shifts in the industry.”
