Iranian Military States US Naval Blockade Plan Amounts to Piracy

The Iranian military issued a statement on Monday stating that a planned US naval blockade of Iranian ports in international waters would be illegal and constitute piracy. The statement, released by the Iranian military's central command center Khatam al-Anbiya, was read on state television.

The US Central Command announced that the blockade would start on Monday at 14:00 GMT. This follows the collapse of talks between the US and Iran held in Pakistan over the weekend. The blockade targets vessels entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas, including those on the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, but would not affect transit through the Strait of Hormuz to non-Iranian ports.
